A new Chinese trailer for Dune has Timothée Chalamet seeing the death of his character. Chalamet plays Paul Atreides, the son of Duke Atreides and heir to the throne of his house, which has just taken over control of the planet Arrakis, the only known source of the Spice Melange. The "spice" allows for interstellar travel and enhances mental ability. The planet was previously ruled by House Harkonnen, a brutal clan that goes to war with House Atreides over the planet. Based on the novel by Frank Herbert, the latest adaptation is directed by Blade Runner 2049's Denis Villeneuve.

The film features a massive cast, including Chalamet, Josh Brolin, Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Jason Momoa, Stellan Skarsgård, Oscar Isaac, Javier Bardem, Sharon Duncan-Brewster, David Dastmalchian, Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, and Stephen McKinley Henderson. Villeneuve filmed only the first half of the book with the hopes that he'd be able to film the second half based on the success of the film. Thus far, early reviews for Dune have been mostly positive and it's already making significant profits at the overseas box office.

In the latest promotion for Dune, a Chinese trailer shows off a hefty amount of new footage, including Chalamet's Paul Atreides having a vision of his own death. Chalamet's character is known for his strong mind and visionary abilities throughout the source novel and it appears that won't be ignored in Villeneuve's adaptation. The trailer also shows new footage of a character riding one of Arrakis' sandworms, which feature prominently in the Dune universe. New dialogue and unreleased footage are featured throughout the trailer, which should serve to further whet the appetites of those looking forward to the film. Check out the trailer below:

Dune has already been cleared by the Chinese censors for release in the country, which is a Communist nation with strict guidelines on what they'll allow to be shown. Recently, the latest Bond film, No Time To Die, was also cleared by the censors, although the release date for the film is not yet secured for the territory. Many films have suffered as a result of not being released in China, which accounts for the largest overseas box office in the world. The most recent controversial film for the country is Marvel's Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, which has not secured a release, believed to be largely due to statements made by actor Simu Liu years ago.

The hype for Dune is at a boiling point and while it has been released in many markets overseas, as well as the Venice Film Festival, the wait is still a month away for North American audiences. While it's great to see new footage and teases of things to come, those that are trying to go into the film as fresh as possible will likely want to avoid anything Dune related for the next month, even if the desire to see more is hard to resist. The hope, of course, is that Dune will perform well enough to get the second chapter made and, if Villeneuve gets his way, a third chapter after that. Whatever the outcome, the anticipation for Dune is palpable and audiences are ready to take the journey when it debuts in theaters and on HBO Max on October 22nd, 2021.
