The upcoming Yellowstone prequel series 1923 has added Terminator 2: Judgment Day star Robert Patrick to the cast. Yellowstone is the hit neo-Western drama series created by Hell or High Water's Taylor Sheridan that premiered on Paramount Network in 2018. The series follows Kevin Costner as John Dutton, the patriarch of a ranching family who is part of the sixth generation to work his Montana ranch and fights to defend his family and land from various threats. The series, which is premiering season 5 on November 13, has already spawned a spin-off, 1883, which followed the first generation of Duttons who settled on the land with the help of tortured Civil War veteran Shea Brennan (Sam Elliott).

Although the show will be getting an additional spinoff called 6666 following the goings-on at the Four Sixes ranch in the modern day, there is another series in the Yellowstone universe titled 1923, which is due on the streaming service Paramount+ this December. The show will follow a generation of Duttons between the two extant series, working to make the ranch into what it is today. The cast of the series includes some huge heavy-hitters including Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford, alongside Sebastian Roché, Darren Mann, Michelle Randolph, James Badge Dale, Brian Geraghty, Aminah Nieves, Julia Schlaepfer, Brandon Sklenar, and Scream 2022 star Marley Shelton.

Per Deadline, the cast of 1923 has gained another iconic member. Patrick, who played the liquid metal antagonist known as the T-1000 in 1991's Terminator 2: Judgment Day, will be joining for an unspecified amount of episodes. He will be playing Sheriff William McDowell, who is a friend of this generation of Duttons.

Patrick is still best known for his role in T2, but in the intervening years he has appeared in plenty of big-name projects. This includes playing Jackson Herveaux on the vampire series True Blood, Ray Cash in the Johnny Cash biopic Walk the Line, and White Dragon in the hit HBO DCEU series Peacemaker. Although he has over 150 credits, the only Western films he has been involved in are 2000's All the Pretty Horses and 2001's Texas Rangers.

Considering the fact that he hasn't played a Western role in over two decades, this role in 1923 will give him a huge opportunity to show off his range. The Yellowstone prequel series will also reunite him with Ford, who he hasn't worked with since the 2006 crime thriller Firewall. If this series is a hit, as seems inevitable with Yellowstone projects in recent years, it might just usher in a whole new phase of his career.
