That “Point Break” remake has found its man. Well, one of them, anyway. “Olympus has Fallen” star Gerard Butler is said to be in final negotiations to play Bodhi, the role assayed by the late and great Patrick Swayze in the Kathryn Bigelow original.

The script for the remake is from “Equilibrium’s” Kurt Wimmer, and will be set in the international world of extreme sports instead of California surfers. Like the 1991 movie, the plot of the remake will follow awesomely named FBI agent Johnny Utah as he infiltrates a group of bank robbers led by Bodhi.

The producers still need someone to play Johnny Utah, along with his FBI handler, originally played by Gary Busey (back before he became known for being crazy).

It’s too bad Paul Walker passed away, because imagine if they had cast him in the Keanu Reeves role. Walker has already played the character in the exact same movie once already, except that time it was called “The Fast and the Furious”. You could have brought the whole thing full circle by casting him in a “Point Break” remake. Alas…

Ericson Core, who actually did work on the “The Fast and The Furious” and “Daredevil,” will make his feature film directorial debut on the remake. Alcon is looking at starting production on the film this summer.
