SIR DAVID Attenborough has beaten Morgan Freeman and Stephen Fry to be revealed as the nation's favourite voice.

The Blue Planet presenter is the star the UK most likes to listen to, according to a new survey.

Other famous vocal chords the 92-year-old topped included Dame Judi Dench and Sean Connery.

Barack Obama, Samuel L. Jackson and the Queen were also among the 50 celebrities ranked.

A spokesman for Scrivens Opticians & Hearing Care, which carried out the study, said: “We recognise how different voices sound and have our own personal favourites, from the inspirational and most trustworthy to those that sooth and move us emotionally.

“The power of the spoken word can’t be underestimated, communication is an essential part of our mental wellbeing, which is why it’s so important that we take care of our hearing throughout our lives.”

The poll showed that most people preferred women's voices to be soft, upbeat and husky, like Joanna Lumley OBE, the Queen and Dame Helen Mirren - who all made the top 20.

Unfortunately, Good Morning Britain's Susanna Reid came in at 50th place.

Participants preferred men who had deep, soft and slow voices.

Celebrity Juice host Keith Lemon and US president Donald Trump were deemed to have the most annoying voices.

It comes as it was revealed last month that Blue Planet is returning to the BBC for a special live series - but without Sir David as host.

The four-part edition, instead presented by Steve Backshall and Chris Packham, has been confirmed by the network.

Blue Planet Live will act as a follow-up to the hugely successful Blue Planet II, which captivated viewers in late 2017 after 16 years off-screen.

The series will see Steve and Chris revisit the locations and animals featured on the original documentary, including the Bahamas, the Great Barrier Reef and the East Coast of the US.

BBC boss Charlotte Moore said: "Blue Planet Live will thrill the millions of viewers who discovered so much from last year's ground-breaking series that shocked the nation."
