These last few days, we've been slammed with poster after poster, several major studios having somehow scheduled this poster drops on the same day. We've gotten everything from Justice League to Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 to even some Twin Peaks photos. All of these posters ranged in quality, but now we're showing off what has to be the best of the bunch. Alien: Covenant has released an absolutely stunning new poster for the upcoming film, which you can stare at for several long minutes down below.

Okay, put your eyeballs back in your head now. 20th Century Fox released this new poster through the Alien: Covenant Twitter with the caption "the path to paradise begins in hell." It depicts a whole bunch of Xenomorphs entangled with some unfortunate Engineers, Facehuggers firmly clasped over their mouths. The poster is as close to perfect as you can get, with colors and sculpture-like art style syncing quite nicely with the overall aesthetics of the Alien franchise. There's even what looks like the crest of an Alien Queen in the left corner, but it's fairly ambiguous. Anyone who felt disappointed with the lack of Xenomorphs in Prometheus sure won't be disappointed this time around.

It's a very striking poster, and it may even be inspired by real-life art. Daniel Danger (via Birth.Movies.Death) has pointed out that the poster bears more than a few similarities to The Gates of Hell, a sculpture created by French artist Auguste Rodin. The sculpture itself depicts "The Inferno", the first part of Dante's Divine Comedy. Rodin worked on the sculpture for 37 years, all the way up until his death in 1917. The Alien: Covenant poster seems to take several visual cues from The Gates of Hell, which is only supported by the poster's caption mentioning hell. You can check out the sculpture itself right at this link here to see what I'm talking about.

Alien: Covenant is the sequel to Prometheus and takes place before the events of Alien. The film follows the crew of the Covenant, who discover what they believe to be a paradise planet. However, all is not as it seems, as the planet is inhabited by monstrous creatures and David, the android survivor from the Prometheus expedition, who has not just been twiddling his thumbs in his isolation after the events of the previous film. Ridley Scott returns to direct with a cast that includes Michael Fassbender, Katherine Waterston, Billy Crudup, and Danny McBride.

Alien: Covenant is set to hit theaters on May 19, 2017. For everything related to Alien: Covenant, make sure to keep checking back in with CinemaBlend and we'll keep you updated with new information as soon as it becomes available.
