Scott Wolf is headed to The CW.

The Party of Five and The Night Shift grad has been tapped to star in the network's newly ordered Nancy Drew reboot. The casting brings the actor back to the former WB Network after he starred in seasons three and four of Everwood.

Wolf replaces Freddie Prinze Jr. in the project from Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage (Gossip Girl, Dynasty). Sources say producers wanted to go on a different direction and the split was amicable. Recastings are increasingly common this time of year as networks review audience testing and refine casts based on those results and newly available talent whose pilots did not go to series.

Wolf will take over the role of Carson Drew, the father of the teen sleuth played by Kennedy McMann in a potentially breakout role. The character is described as an attorney who has become estranged from his daughter after the death of his wife. His relationship with Nancy is thrown into disarray when the sleuth's murder investigation reveals secrets from his past.

Nancy Drew — picked up to series on Tuesday alongside Batwoman and Riverdale spinoff Katy Keene — is set in the summer after Nancy's high school graduation when the 18-year-old thought she'd be leaving her hometown for college. Instead, when a family tragedy hits, she finds herself staying at home and working the case.

Noga Landau, Schwartz and Savage penned the script and executive produce alongside Melinda Hsu Taylor and Lis Rowinski. Larry Teng directed the pilot and serves as co-executive producer on the CBS TV Studios drama from Schwartz and Savage's Fake Empire banner.

Wolf's credits also include TNT's Perception andABC's V reboot and The Nine. He is repped by Innovative, Luber Roklin and Hirsch Wallerstein.
