Mission: Impossible, a franchise that is now almost two decades old, no doubt owes part of its sustained success to the fact that the sequels are released just far enough apart to prevent burnout. By the time Mission: Impossible 5 arrives in theaters next year, four years will have passed since Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol stormed into theaters and became the highest-grossing Mission: Impossible movie to date.

25 Best Supervillain Movie Costumes Ever

Little is known about the plot of Mission: Impossible 5 at this point, but we do have a good idea of which actors will appear in the movie. Tom Cruise will, of course, be reprising his role as Ethan Hunt, while Simon Pegg is once again playing fellow field agent Benji Dunn and Rebecca Ferguson (The White Queen) will be joining the franchise for the first time as Mission: Impossible 5‘s female lead. Jeremy Renner and Ving Rhames will also be returning as William Brandt and Luther Stickell, respectively.

One thing we do know for sure about Mission: Impossible 5‘s story is that it’s set to continue the series’ habit of globe-trotting. Mission: Impossible 5 has now begun production in Vienna, Austria, and the first set photos from filming in public locations – including a subway station and the roof of an opera house – have emerged over at Coming Soon. Click the link below for a first look at Cruise, Ferguson, Pegg and more preparing to embark on the next big mission.
Mission: Impossible 5 Set Photos

The initial Mission: Impossible 5 script draft was penned by Drew Pearce (Iron Man 3), before Will Staples (Call of Duty) was reportedly recruited earlier this year to redraft the screenplay. Calling the shots is one Christopher McQuarrie, who recently directed Cruise in action thriller Jack Reacher and co-wrote Cruise’s sci-fi/action blockbuster Edge of Tomorrow.

The set photos from Mission: Impossible 5 don’t give away too much, but they do offer plenty of room for speculation. Pegg is shown looking pretty suave in a tuxedo, which could mean that Benji has to go undercover at the Vienna State Opera, where Cruise and Ferguson are also shown hanging out on the roof. Both of the actors appear to be hooked up to some wires, indicating that they were doing some stunt work in the location.

Mission: Impossible 5 will hit theaters on December 25, 2015.
