Knives Out Digital & Blu-ray Release Date, Bonus Features Revealed

Following its incredible (and still ongoing) box office run, Knives Out will be released for home viewing next month, and it's got some fun special features for viewers to enjoy. Rian Johnson's original whodunit has been a runaway hit since its release over Thanksgiving weekend last year, holding its own against some massive films throughout the year-end holidays. Its current domestic box office total is $147.5 million, making it the highest-grossing non-horror original film of 2019. Knives Out has also reached over $200 million worldwide.

Knives Out has also enjoyed plenty of critical love. Maintaining an excellent 97% on Rotten Tomatoes, Knives Out was nominated for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy at the Golden Globes, and its stars Daniel Craig and Ana de Armas found themselves with acting nominations as well. Though the film didn't score many Oscar nominations, Johnson did get a nom for Best Original Screenplay. Knives Out has become a smash hit across the board, turning into its own mini-cultural phenomenon. Even Jeopardy!'s Alex Trebek is a fan.

Now fans won't have to wait long to enjoy Knives Out in their own homes. According to Collider, Knives Out hits Digital on February 7, followed by a release on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD on February 25. For those interested in the behind-the-scenes workings of the film, there are a good amount of special features planned for the physical copies, including two commentary tracks, an eight-part "Making a Murder" documentary, and a Q&A with Johnson and the cast. Plus, there will be two deleted scenes and "Meet the Thrombeys" viral ads.

Thanks to its massive success, there might be more Knives Out in the future. Johnson has already said he would happily write more films centered on Daniel Craig's Southern detective Benoit Blanc, with the second script already in the works, and Craig himself said recently he would be thrilled to return. Knives Out has made enough money now that a sequel is all but guaranteed; the only thing that could stop it might be Johnson's planned Star Wars trilogy.

Based on various interviews with Johnson regarding Knives Out, it's clear he had a lot of passion for the film, and it will be interesting to see more of his process through the special features. One of the commentary tracks included among the special features is a track Johnson recorded to be listened to in theaters when watching the movie, so fans who missed the chance to check that out will still get the chance to. The downside to all this is the 4K/Blu-ray/DVD additions might be on the more expensive side, but for the die-hard Knives Out fans, it will surely be worth it.
