The Hunger Games: Catching Fire continues to make a ton of money for the boys and girls at Summit Entertainment and Lionsgate.

Although it arrived in theaters back in November, the second installment of the cinematic series continues to make a fair amount of money at the box office. According to the numbers recently posted over at Box Office Mojo, Catching Fire has officially crossed the $400 million mark in the United States.

As of this writing, The Hunger Games follow-up has approximately $402.5 million in the bank domestically. However, the flick is still a couple of million behind its foreign total; Catching Fire has generated $404 million from moviegoers in foreign markets.

Altogether, this brings the worldwide total to a deeply impressive $806 million. This certainly bodes well for Mocking Jay Part 1, which should hit theaters around the world this November.

The Hunger Games: Catching Fire was the second highest-grossing film of 2013. The only other motion picture to make more money that director Francis Lawrence’s adventure was Shane Black’s Iron Man 3. The latest installment of Marvel and Disney’s franchise made $408 million by the end of the year.

The success of Catching Fire at the box office helped Jennifer Lawrence earn the title of 2013′s most bankable star by Quigley Publishing Company. Sandra Bullock ranked just behind Lawrence thanks to the success of both The Heat and Alfonso Cuaron’s Gravity.

According to a recent survey put together by the folks at Fandango, The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is currently the most anticipated film of 2014. Fans who took part in the poll also named star Jennifer Lawrence as the “Sexiest Woman in the Movies.”

The American Hustle star said that the cast and crew are overwhelmed by the success of The Hunger Games at the box office. She also told Comic Book Resources that she wouldn’t necessarily mind being associated with Katness Everdeen for the rest of her life.

“We were obviously surprised by the success — how could we not be? And if I was going to be identified for a character for the rest of my life? That is a hard thing to think about,” she told the website during an interview last year.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 1 is presently slated to hit theaters in November of this year. The final installment of the series arrives in 2015. While you’re waiting for the first part to roll around, you can revisit Catching Fire when it hits home video this March.
