Spoilers for House of the Dragon episode 9 below!

House of the Dragon season 1 finale trailer has Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen facing a war. HBO's Game of Thrones prequel spinoff show has captured the world by storm, breaking records for the streaming service. Set generations before the birth of the Princess Daenerys Targaryen, House of the Dragon centers on the conflict within the silver-haired dragon-riding family following King Viserys I Targaryen (Paddy Considine) naming his daughter Rhaenyra heir to the Iron Throne.

Following Viserys' death, Hand of the King, Ser Otto Hightower (Rhys Ifans), and his loyal members of the small council, set their plans in motion to claim the throne for Viserys' eldest son, Aegon Targaryen (Tom Glynn-Carney). During Aegon's coronation in the Dragonpit, Princess Rhaenys Targaryen (Eve Best) bursts through the floor of the hall on her dragon Meleys' back and confronts the newly appointed king. However, Lady Alicent Hightower (Olivia Cooke) stands before her son, prepared to take the blast of dragon fire that never comes. Rhaenys instead turns Meleys to the door and flies away.

Game of Thrones recently released the House of the Dragon season 1 finale trailer which has Rhaenyra facing a war with Aegon and his family. The video shows Rhaenyra and Prince Daemon Targaryen (Matt Smith) gather their allies and prepare for the cataclysmic conflict to come. With both sides commanding dragons and legions of soldiers, the impeding war will be nothing short of devastating and tragic. Check out the trailer above.

War Has Finally Arrived For House Of The Dragon

The season 1 finale trailer depicts Rhaenyra receiving the heartbreaking news of her father's death but also learning of the shocking betrayal by Alicent, her old childhood friend who seemingly made amends with her just days before. The perceived duplicity on Alicent's part would only enrage Rhaenyra to push for a violent rebuke. Although the video clearly depicts Otto at Dragonstone, likely attempting a truce, the two factions drawing blades only show that war is nothing but inevitable.

As House of the Dragon episode 9's narrative was primarily from the Hightower's point of view, with Rhaenyra and her family not featured at all, the final episode will likely focus on the gathering support of the Princess' claim as well as their preparations for the war to come. With the Targaryen civil war only beginning in the final episode, the bulk of the multi-year war will probably be featured in season 2. With only one House of the Dragon episode remaining, audiences have only a week to wait to witness the start of the Dance of the Dragons.
