New photos from Roland Emmerich’s upcoming film Moonfall show Halle Berry as an astronaut out to save Earth from destruction. Moonfall, a sci-fi disaster epic, follows former astronaut turned NASA executive Jo Fowler (played by Berry) as she uncovers the secret to the Earth’s survival. The planet nears destruction after an unknown force knocks the moon off-orbit and sends it hurtling towards humanity, but Fowler and a small group of heroes have a last-ditch plan for survival.
Moonfall is the latest movie from disaster-film master Roland Emmerich (Independence Day, The Day After Tomorrow). Emmerich wrote the film with frequent collaborator Harald Kloser, as well as Netflix’s Extinction writer Spenser Cohen. Patrick Wilson stars alongside Berry as Brian Harper, an astronaut from Fowler’s past who joins her on the daring mission. Game of Thrones’ John Bradley plays K.C. Houseman, a conspiracy theorist who believes Fowler’s wild claims. The supporting cast includes Kelly Yu, Ant-Man’s Michael Peña and veteran actor Donald Sutherland.
In new official photos from the Lionsgate film, Berry’s character can be seen mounting a heroic mission, standing under a specially-built NASA rocket. The film’s startling visuals show the ship nearing the International Space Station while the moon emerges closer to impact in the background. Emmerich’s trademark apocalypse nears fruition as other pictures show Los Angeles on fire, as humans loot and riot their way towards oblivion. Fowler and Harper are also seen stranded in an icy setting, perhaps having crash-landed back on the Earth’s arctic locales. Check out the new stills below:
