Fox’s reboot and brand-extension machine is close to popping out another title: Chairman and CEO Dana Walden confirmed to reporters Thursday that the network is near a deal with Marvel for an X-Men live-action TV series.

“We’re in negotiations with Marvel, we’re hopeful that we’ll be able to announce something soon,” Walden said. “We’re not closed on a deal yet, but it’s something we’re definitely pursuing.”

The deal, she clarified, could potential include characters in the X-Men feature film franchise (which is owned by Fox) and not any characters in the Marvel-verse that are with Disney and rival ABC. “This will be exclusively with the franchise as it has existed at Fox,” she said.

Of course, just because the show will have characters familiar to the X-Men feature film universe doens’t mean the show will have the actors from the movies. Walden also noted the show would not merely be a limited series, but is conceived as a regular, long-running show.

Fox is getting pretty stocked with familiar brands lately. The X-Files is returning, Minority Report debuts this fall, a Prison Break reboot is forthcoming, and 24 is on track to reboot as well.
