The first set photos from Marvel Studios' Eternals stars Angelina Jolie as the blonde-haired warrior Thena. After months of rumors, it was confirmed this summer that Eternals will be one of the first Phase 4 films in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Directed by Chloé Zhao, the film is based around the Eternals, a group of lesser-known Marvel characters created by Jack Kirby. To help make up for a lacking public knowledge for these characters, Marvel assembled an all-star cast for the movie.

This all started when Angelina Jolie's name was the first to be linked to Eternals last year. She was finally confirmed to be part of the cast during Marvel Studios' San Diego Comic-Con panel, but not in the role many believed she'd play. Jolie is playing Thena, one of the Eternals' greatest warriors in the comics, who is also the daughter of their one-time ruler Zuras. For Eternals though, it will be Salma Hayek's Ajak who leads the superpowered race, which also stars Richard Madden as Ikaris, Kumail Nanjiani as Kingo, Gemma Chan as Sersi, and many others.

Now, we have our first piece of confirmation that filming on Eternals is underway, as Angelina Jolie has been spotted on set. The images come from Daily Mail, who shared the photos of Jolie with blonde hair playing Thena. She can be seen in an all-white dress with a gold belt standing in the water, with reports claiming she's spreading ashes, possibly indicating a funeral just took place. Zhao can be seen near Jolie in a few of the photos too, but no other cast members were spotted with Jolie.

Even though Thena is not wearing her Eternal super-suit that was shown in the concept art at D23, her regular, civilian attire has the same color scheme, and she retains her blonde hair. As for where she is or whose ashes she may be spreading, those questions remain unanswered. Thanks to the potential wide-spread nature of Eternals' story, this could be Thena on Earth or any number of planets across the galaxy.

With these photos now online, they could be the first of many as production continues overseas. Most of the film's cosmic adventures will not likely be filmed outdoors, but some other aspects of it could require filming to venture into public places like this. If that does happen, then additional set photos could come in the future that could reveal new looks at the movie and likely the first looks at many of the other cast members, like Kit Harington's Black Knight. And, unless Marvel decides to release an official first image to announce the start of production, set photos like these may be the only updates fans get on Eternals for the time being.
