Gretel and Hansel, Orion Pictures' reimagining of the Brothers Grimm fairy tale, has set a date with movie audiences.


The film will will open Jan. 31, 2020.


Gretel and Hansel stars Sophia Lillis, who broke out with the hit 2017 Stephen King adaptation It. It also stars newcomer Sammy Leakey, Star Trek: First Contact's Alice Krige, Arrow's Jessica De Gouw and Black Mirror's Charles Babalola.


Osgood Perkins, the filmmaker behind horror films The Blackcoat’s Daughter and I Am the Pretty Thing That Lives in the House, is directing the project and co-wrote it with Rob Hayes.


The story is described as being set a long time ago in a distant fairy tale countryside and focuses on a young girl who leads her little brother into a dark wood in desperate search of food and work, only to stumble upon a nexus of terrifying evil.


Brian Kavanaugh-Jones (Sinister, Upgrade) and Fred Berger (La La Land, Autopsy of Jane Doe), partners at Automatik Entertainment, will produce. Sandra Yee Ling will executive produce.
