A new trailer for Eternals shows the heroes gearing up for final battle. Directed by Chloé Zhao, Eternals stars Richard Madden, Angelina Jolie, Gemma Chan, Salma Hayek, Kit Haringson, Bryan Tyree Henry, Kumail Nanjiani, Lia McHugh, Don Lee, Barry Keoghan, and Lauren Ridloff as super-powered beings created by the ancient Celestials and sent to Earth to guide and protect humanity while battling the Deviants. The film is set in Marvel's Phase 4 and introduces a whole new dimension of characters to the MCU.

Eternals premiered last week and reviews have begun filing in with a very mixed take. Marvel has typically scored on the higher end of the scale with most of their films falling into the "certified fresh" category at Rotten Tomatoes, but Eternals reviews so far have put it on a potentially different path. The film currently sits as the lowest-rated Marvel film to date, currently sitting at 61%, which is a far cry from the standard 85% average for MCU films.

Today, Marvel released a new spot for Eternals, which highlights the positive reviews for the film, citing the "epic, unique, powerful, and breathtaking" impressions the film left for some critics. In addition the spot takes on a more heroic vibe altogether, showcasing the Eternals in action and preparing for what appears to be an epic battle. While the film appears to be divisive from a critical standpoint, an audience "score" has yet to be determined. It's always possible that the audience may love the film more, as has been the case for many films in the past, but it's too soon to tell how the pendulum will swing for Eternals. Check out the spot below:

Eternals is already making waves by having the first LGBTQ couple in a Marvel film, as well as the first-ever sex scene in a Marvel feature film. The film is also taking a big risk in delving deep into the origins of the Marvel universe, introducing audiences to concepts like the Celestials and the creation of superheroes, which is new territory for MCU fans. Beyond that, the introduction of the massive cast of characters and century-spanning timelines have made for a complex Marvel film that's well off the path of the norm.

While reviews and ratings are always subjective, one thing about the lower scores for Eternals is that it sparks interest in viewers wanting to know why. For some, that's incentive enough to check out a movie, as it means it will likely be very different from what's come before, which sometimes isn't recognized as a good thing until much later. Marvel is the king of the box office these days and much of that has to do with a tried-and-true formula, so shaking things up can sometimes mean letting down a core audience that's used to a certain type of film. The flip side is that it may invigorate a new audience and even become better appreciated over time as an outlier to the usual assembly line style product. Audiences can decide for themselves when Eternals hits theaters on November 5.
