Hailee Steinfeld is out and Emma Roberts is in in director Jonathan Mostow’s upcoming hitman thriller “For the Dogs.”

The film, based on the book by Kevin Wignall, will co-star Sam Worthington as “a solitary assassin [who] agrees to help a young woman (to be played by Roberts) exact revenge on those who mercilessly murdered her parents and younger brother. His guidance unleashes events that ultimately stoke her thirst for vengeance while he desperately seeks peace and absolution.”

Roberts replaces Steinfeld, who might have just gotten sick of playing gun-packing teenagers after “True Grit,” “Ender’s Game,” “Three Days to Kill,” and the upcoming “Barely Lethal.”

Emma Roberts is coming off the comedy “We’re the Millers” and FX’s latest “American Horror Story” iteration.

Jonathan Mostow (“Terminator: Rise of the Machines”) is directing.
