'Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer' Trailer: Josh Hutcherson, Samantha Bee Team Up for Holiday Event

The animated family film will be available in theaters for one day: Dec. 1.

Josh Hutcherson soars as a literal dark horse in the trailer for Screen Media's Elliot: The Littlest Reindeer. The family holiday film, which also features the voices of Samantha Bee and Martin Short, follows Hutcherson as the titular miniature horse who wants a position among the reindeer guiding Santa's sleigh.

After hearing Blitzen has retired, Elliot leaps at the opportunity to become the newest member of St. Nick's squad: “Did you hear that, Hazel?!" he exclaims to Bee's best-friend character. "This is my chance to prove I’m just as good as any stinkin’ reindeer!”

But Hutcherson's "miniature horse with big dreams" must overcome several obstacles before he can reach Father Christmas — mostly in the form of his arrogant reindeer competitors. "Hey, little-league tryouts were last week, small fry!" one sneers.

"Reindeer are jerks," Hazel reassures Elliot. "They’ve always been jerks, and they always will be jerks. Even Santa understands that — Santa!”

Despite the adversity, Elliot remains determined to best his pretentious competition, holding his own among the crowd while completing various snowy exercises to prove his abilities. The animated flick, directed by Jennifer Westcott and co-starring Morena Baccarin and John Cleese, will dash into theaters for one day only: Dec. 1.
