Dwayne Johnson is not afraid to address his feud with Tyrese Gibson regarding the upcoming Fast & Furious spinoff, and he did just that on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen. The feud has been going on since late 2017, when Gibson publicly chastised Johnson for being selfish about making a spinoff of their famous movie franchise with Jason Statham. The Hobbs and Shaw spinoff will hit theaters next year, followed by the as-yet untitled Fast & Furious 9 in 2020.

Johnson has portrayed the character of Hobbs since 2011's Fast Five, and Gibson has played Roman since the second installment in the series, 2 Fast 2 Furious (which came out in 2003). The Fast & Furious property is one of Universal's most lucrative franchises ever, with 2015's Furious 7 grossing the most ($1.52 billion worldwide). 2017's The Fate of the Furious wasn't quite as big as its immediate predecessor, but still took in $1.27 billion around the globe and became the second most successful film of 2017 in terms of its international box office.

On Andy Cohen's show, a caller asked Johnson if he had spoken to Gibson since the feud erupted last year. "The answer is no", Johnson responded, adding that the whole conflict was a disappointment because he feels the beef was one-sided. Johnson realizes that Gibson was going through some stuff in his personal life at the time the feud began, but still doesn't see a future where the two would talk. Johnson's response shows a lot of disappointment about the situation, especially because he says he was once good friends with Gibson.

While Johnson appears to be the innocent one in the feud, one can't ignore the fact that he has a history of feuding with other cast members, especially Vin Diesel, who allegedly wasn't pleased with Johnson's behavior on the set of The Fate of the Furious. Both Johnson and Vin Diesel exchanged passive aggressive social media posts about each other, and Johnson ended up thanking all his co-stars in the film, with the exception of Diesel. At the time, many thought the whole back-and-forth banter could just be a publicity stunt.

This feud is but the latest in the sometimes hostile land of Hollywood. The feud between Bette Davis and Joan Crawford on What Ever Happened To Baby Jane is legendary. In the 1990s, Jim Carrey and Tommy Lee Jones similarly feuded on Batman Forever, as did Julia Roberts and Steven Spielberg (reportedly) on Hook. Kevin Smith has likewise been very honest about his bad time working with Bruce Willis on the 2010 film Cop Out. There have been many other feuds as well, and some that are quite shocking. However, at this point, the feud between Johnson and Gibson can only help future films in the Fast & Furious franchise. It's still true that, sometimes, there really is no such thing as bad publicity.
