Summer might be all about superhero movies, but the spring and fall box offices are being dominated by young adult sci-fi novel adaptations, specifically of the dystopian future variety. 2015′s fall release schedule includes The Hunger Games: Mockingjay -Part 2 and Maze Runner: The Scorch Trials, but the month of March is all about The Divergent Series: Insurgent, in which the newly-liberated Tris battles the influence of power-hungry Erudite leader Jeanine (Kate Winslet).

The Divergent Series can be a little impenetrable at first due to the amount of factions and characters involved; and for those unaware that Matrix-like simulations are a major part of the story, the recent teaser trailer for Insurgent was probably very confusing. The first full-length trailer offers a slightly clearer picture, as Jeanine is shown testing “Divergents” like Tris (people with more than one personality trait) in order to unlock some kind of magical box.

Insurgent was directed by Robert Schwentke, with an initial draft of the script written by Brian Duffield (Jane Got a Gun) before being reworked by Oscar-winning screenwriter Akiva Goldsman (Fringe). The supporting cast includes Theo James as broody love interest Four, Jai Courtney as Jeanine’s lackey Eric, and Miles Teller, Ansel Elgort, Zoë Kravitz and Ray Stevenson as Tris’ fellow Dauntless rebels.

Veronica Roth’s book series has a large enough fanbase for Insurgent to draw a respectable audience, and even for those who haven’t read the books it looks like there will be an entertaining blend of action and romance. Let’s hope that Insurgent delivers a worthy second chapter rather than a blow to the franchise, because there are still two more of these movies to go.

In addition to the poster there’s also a new poster for Insurgent that’s pretty impressive, and as a bonus feature can be flipped upside down for a slightly different version.

The Divergent Series: Insurgent arrives in theaters on March 20th, 2015.
