In honor of Star Wars Day 2024 and the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace, Disney is selling a brand-new Darth Maul legacy lightsaber collectible.


In celebration of Star Wars Day on May 4, 2024, Disney is selling a brand-new Darth Maul legacy lightsaber hilt and collector's box set, honoring his incredible double-bladed red lightsaber first introduced in Star Wars: Episode I - The Phantom Menace. Darth Maul was a massively exciting character when he appeared in The Phantom Menace. Not only was he a new Sith after Darth Sidious and Darth Vader had dominated the original Star Wars trilogy, but he also brought the first live-action double-bladed lightsaber to the big screen, which has continued to influence lightsabers in Star Wars movies and TV shows.


Now, according to Jedi News, the Disney Store will further honor the legacy of one of Star Wars' most powerful Sith in advance of the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace by introducing this new Darth Maul lightsaber collectible. The stunning hilt will also play a segment from the iconic Phantom Menace song "Duel of the Fates," which is well-known for accompanying the epic battle between Darth Maul, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Qui-Gon Jinn. In addition, the lightsaber hilt includes sound effects and will glow red when attached to two legacy lightsaber blades (sold separately).

This collectible is the perfect choice to celebrate Star Wars Day 2024, which aligns with the 25th anniversary of The Phantom Menace. Darth Maul was a prominent figure in much of the advertising for the movie, including his dominating presence on one of the key Phantom Menace posters. He also played an extremely important role in the movie, with many arguing that he is the titular phantom menace after all. While this is somewhat debated among audiences, as Palpatine is an equally likely candidate, it nevertheless holds true that Maul was a major player in the prequel trilogy's first movie.


Star Wars has also integrated Darth Maul in fascinating ways since his presumed death in The Phantom Menace, showing that he was and continues to be a popular character. After his live-action debut, Darth Maul shocked viewers by returning in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars show and Star Wars Rebels, where his plot mainly consisted of hunting down and seeking revenge upon Obi-Wan Kenobi, and making a brief live-action return in Solo: A Star Wars Story. This additional fleshing out of his character has made him all the more compelling and an even greater threat than he was before.


Darth Maul's lightsaber is iconic even separate from the character, though, as it represents a significant piece of Star Wars history. The franchise has since incorporated multiple double-bladed lightsabers, from the Inquisitors in the Imperial Era to Sith Rey in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.
