After the massive success of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle in 2017, it was no surprise a sequel would be in the works. The Jumanji sequel started production last week and Dwayne Johnson has shared an adorable behind-the-scenes picture of himself and Kevin Hart sitting beside their new co-star, the legendary Danny DeVito – who looks like he’s having a blast at the script read. Take a look:

This is so exciting! Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle turned out to be a surprising treat that put a fresh spin on the classic 1995 film starring Robin Williams. Four teens decided to try out an old video game and found themselves in a mysterious jungle in the bodies of avatars played by Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Karen Gillan, and Jack Black.

The upcoming sequel has Danny DeVito joining the cast in an undisclosed role, along with Crazy Rich Asians’ Awkwafina and Danny Glover. The iconic character actor has contributed his talent to the long-running television series It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, plus Batman Returns, Matilda, and Disney’s Hercules -- among many others -- and we can’t wait to see what he brings to Jumanji 3!

Per Dwayne Johnson’s recent Twitter post, the actor will certainly get to play off comedic duo The Rock and Kevin Hart. The upcoming film looks to be a direct sequel to Welcome to the Jungle, since all four teens are coming back to reprise their roles, along with Johnson, Hart, Gillan, Black, and Nick Jonas as Seaplane.

Looks like the teens will inevitably find themselves back into the game somehow and meet some new characters along the way -- or, per Jack Black’s crazy theory, go to space to find out what alien technology is allowing these games to exist.

It’s been a while since Danny DeVito has physically starred in a blockbuster as big as this one, as he’s primarily been focusing his energy on the FX series as Frank, and lending his voice to films like Smallfoot, Animal Crackers, and The Lorax.

Danny DeVito will first grace the big screen again in Disney’s live-action Dumbo movie as circus ringmaster Max Medici alongside Michael Keaton, Colin Farrell, Alan Arkin, and Eva Green. The Tim Burton film hits theaters on March 29.

Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle was one of 2017’s biggest hits, as it ranked as the fifth highest-grossing film of the year worldwide, with over $962 million in global earnings.

Jumanji 3 is coming to theaters during the holiday season on December 13, 2019. That's one week before Star Wars: Episode IX -- which is one of the most-anticipated films of the year and the end of the Skywalker trilogy -- and the Cats movie musical starring Rebel Wilson, Idris Elba, Taylor Swift, Judi Dench, Ian McKellen, James Corden, and Jennifer Hudson.
