The bosses over at CBS revealed that they have discussed spinoff shows for every character in Star Trek: Discovery. After news broke that Patrick Stewart was returning as Jean-Luc Picard for a brand new Star Trek series, many fans were wondering what other characters could potentially get a spinoff.

Star Trek: Discovery is the most recent Star Trek series that focuses on a crew aboard the USS Discovery and takes place 10 years before the original Kirk and Spock storyline. Discovery aired in September 2017 and was the first Star Trek show fans had seen since Star Trek: Enterprise ended in 2005. While the original Star Trek was broadcast on cable television, Discovery aired exclusively on CBS new streaming service called, All Access. Like all Star Trek shows, Discovery has a big cast since it takes a lot of people to control a spaceship. The show stars Sonequa Martin-Green, Doug Jones, Jason Isaacs, and many others in key roles. While some of the characters may be more loved by fans than others, they have all been considered for a possible spinoff.

When interviewing the executives at CBS, Deadline asked if they had been planning a spinoff with Michelle Yeoh's character Philippa Georgiou given the way season 1 ended. EVP of Original Content Julie McNamara responded by explaining, "We’ve really talked about virtually all of the characters who popped in Discovery as potential spin-off shows. It’s obviously very much driven by our conversations with Alex Kurtzman’s Secret Hideout and the other creators involved. I wouldn’t say at this point that we are actively pursuing a Michelle Yeoh series but it has been discussed."

With Alex Kurtzman expanding the Star Trek franchise for CBS, it shouldn't come as a huge surprise that they would consider spinoff shows for some of the more popular characters in Discovery. Even though Picard is getting his own series, CBS is still going to need more spinoffs if they hope to expand the franchise as big as they've made it seem.

Since CBS has thought about series revolving around other Discovery characters, it's intriguing to think that they could be considering expanding older Star Trek characters like they are doing with Picard. While Star Trek: Voyager and Star Trek: Deep Space Nine may not have been as popular as other Star Trek series, a spinoff about Captain Kathryn Janeway or even Captain Sisko could be an interesting concept.

Even though the new Picard spinoff won't connect to Discovery, it will still bring in a lot of viewers since Stewart's character is one of the most popular Star Trek characters out there. Likewise, Star Trek 4, Quentin Tarantino's Star Trek film, and Star Trek: Discovery season 2 will also pull in many fans. Needless to say, there is a lot of Star Trek on the horizon.
