The official trailer for The Boys season 2 teases the true motivations of newest Supe Stormfront (Aya Cash), which involve a terrorist plot, while also hinting at the resolution to season 1's shocking cliffhanger. The subversive superhero series premiered on Amazon Prime last summer and quickly became one of the biggest streaming hits of 2019. The Boys follows a group of vigilantes led by crude-mouthed Billy Butcher (Karl Urban) who seek to take down the Seven, a corrupt superhero team backed by the powerful corporation Vought. Audiences and critics alike fell in love with The Boys' violent antics and darker take on the superhero genre, and there's a great deal of anticipation surrounding season 2.

After months of waiting, it was confirmed in June that The Boys season 2 will premiere on September 4. Unlike the first season, episodes will be released weekly. Additionally, the season will get its own after-show hosted by Aisha Tyler, which is a good thing because there's bound to be a lot to discuss. The Boys season 1 ended with Butcher discovering his wife Becca is actually alive and has been raising the son of Homelander (Antony Starr), the sociopathic leader of the Seven, for several years, and that's only scraping the surface of what season 2 will be dealing with.

Amazon has released the official trailer for The Boys season 2, and it has a lot to unpack. In addition to teasing Butcher's return to the Boys following his Becca revelation, it gives fans a newer, longer look at the Seven's latest addition, Stormfront. The Boys has already teased her social media-friendly personality, but this trailer digs deeper into what she really intends to get out of the Seven. Check it out down below, along with two new NSFW posters.

Clearly, Stormfront is taking advantage of the new surge of super-terrorists, or others who were injected with Compound V. That substance is what gives the Supes their powers, and Homelander has been supplying terrorists with it. They will continue to be a threat going into season 2, and one that Stormfront intends to use for her own advantage. The trailer also shows her conspiring with Homelander, which does not bode well for, well, anyone.

The Boys season 2 trailer also ends on a worrying note for Hughie (Jack Quaid), as he's confronted by his love Starlight (Erin Moriarty) and Homelander. The sadistic Supe orders Starlight to kill Hughie, and while it's likely that she doesn't actually go through with it, the situation definitely isn't a positive development for either of them. There's a lot going on in The Boys season 2, and this trailer certainly increases excitement for what's to come. It's a good thing that season 3 has already been announced; it looks like The Boys is going to need it.

The Boys season 2 premieres on Amazon Prime on September 4.
