Dwayne Johnson's Black Adam won't be introduced in Shazam!'s post-credit scene. Next on the Warner Bros. superhero docket is David F. Sandberg's film that will officially introduce the franchise's newest hero played by Zachary Levi alongside Asher Angel portraying the dual-personality hero's alter-ego, young Billy Batson. Promised to have a different tone that its predecessors, the flick will feature a more lighthearted and family-friendly tone that will appeal to a broader audience.

The actor has been confirmed for the role since 2014, long before Levi was attached to the project. He was originally supposed to have a significant part in the upcoming DCEU instalment, but changing plans for the shared cinematic universe prompted the delay of Black Adam's appearance. Instead, Shazam! will feature a different primary antagonist in Mark Strong's Doctor Sivana and even the Seven Deadly Sins. However, considering that films nowadays set up sequels with stingers, many are hoping that Johnson's villainous character will make a cameo via the post-credit scene. Unfortunately, it's not going to be the case.

Last week, Screen Rant was among the slew of press people invited to watch an editing bay preview for Shazam! after which Sandberg and producer Peter Safran hosted a brief Q&A. One of the questions raised was regarding rumours that Black Adam may be featured in the movie's post-credit sequence - something that Safran clarified. While he didn't confirm or deny that the flick has a stinger, he did say that Johnson is not going to be in the film.

From what I understand, Dwayne Johnson was available to do a post-credit cameo, but the issue was whether you guys could get a suit in time...

Safran: Complete myth. Everything about that - no, he might've been available. That's the only thing about that statement that might be true. I don't know if he was or not. But, no, there was never a conversation with him about a post-credits sequence. Truly, never.

But just because Black Adam won't be directly shown in the first Shazam! film, it doesn't mean that he won't debut in the near future. While Johnson hasn't spoken about the role in quite a whole now, he remains involved in the film as he serves as a producer for the movie. Last year, producer Hiram Garcia maintained that the long-in-development Black Adam film is still happening, although she didn't give a specific timeline when fans can expect the project to move forward. And since the DCEU's slate has already been laid out until 2021, the public may have to wait for the solo movie for a while.

Of course, there's also the possibility of Black Adam debuting in James Gunn's The Suicide Squad. This scenario has been posed long before fans knew about Warner Bros.' plans of revamping the villain-centric subfranchise, but with a mostly new cast of characters, it's not hard to imagine Johnson's character debuting first in an ensemble project before being spun-off to his own adventure, eventually ending sharing the screen with Shazam in the Shazam! sequel.
