Alien: Covenant reveals first cryptic teaser
In space, no one can hear you scream. On the internet though, everyone can see your terror, and will either mock you or share in its sheer horror, depending on what you're scared of. We have a feeling that this first trailer tease for Alien: Covenant will be one of those moments of communal fear, as it brings back a very iconic image to tease the first trailer for the film.

Released just in time for Christmas Eve, the Alien Anthology Twitter feed provided us with this stark look at the egg that started it all in 1979's Alien, returning once more to wreck havoc on another ship of fools unaware that they're about to meet their demise. Presumably led by James Franco's Branson and Katherine Waterson's Branson, the crew will arrive on a planet that has one very interesting inhabitant -Michael Fassbender's David. Why he's there, or how he got their exactly, are yet to be answered, but something tells us that he's not alone. Here's a hint: it's an Alien movie, and there's always something waiting in the shadows.
While this tease doesn't give us a terrible surplus of footage for tomorrow's trailer reveal, Alien: Covenant has still managed to amp up the expectation meter by basically not being Prometheus. Admittedly, whether you loved or hated Ridley Scott's first prequel in the Alien anthology, you have to admit that it was a lot less like Alien than most other films in the series. The technology was cleaner and the crew was full of corporate types and the scientific elite, instead of the blue collar crew and much dirtier atmosphere of the original film. Our first glimpse at Alien: Covenant signals what could be a return to form, as that egg is the latest in a line of clues and whispers we've seen that suggest the horror is back in the franchise.
Every time we find ourselves looking forward to the first teaser to our next round of Xenomorph carnage, we always look back to the trailer that started it all. While the entire series of Alien films have had spectacular teasers in the long and storied history of the franchise, it's that first one that always ranks in first place when it comes to both general effectiveness and sheer terror. It told us that the Alien franchise wasn't afraid of a slow burn, and this singular egg could be another signal that Alien: Covenant is ready to bring the franchise back to its brutal, more visceral roots.
Alien: Covenant emerges from the shadows, ready to terrorize theaters on May 19th, 2017.
