Why Has TorrentDay Been A Success?


With the massive influx of general and scene trackers, never in recent memory has a new general BitTorrent tracker been an instant success. And yet TorrentDay has captured pirates’ imagination – just six months since TorrentDay was launched, TorrentDay claim to have 385,000 members, far more than many of the older, popular general trackers.

So why has TorrentDay captured the imagination to such an extent? The simple answer is the hype of having such a large memberbase.

Ever since TD staff first announced large numbers signing up to the tracker, there have been doubts over the legitimacy of the numbers they quote. Unlike most trackers, TD do not show the tracker stats – a standard feature in most tracker codebases – so rumours have spread that TD staff have “invented” larger numbers to create hype. If that is the case, it has worked well.

TD offers only scene releases, and torrents from “reputable non-scene groups”. Most releases are seedbox-hosted, ensuring pretty good speeds, while pretimes are pretty strong for a fairly new tracker.

Featuring just over 8,000 torrents, nearly half of which are TV shows, TD has been online since September last year. While it’s memberbase is extremely impressive, if accurate, the forums are hardly showing the amount of activity you may expect from a community with nearly 400,000 members. Only a few sections of the forum – in particular the Off Topic section – are showing any real signs of activity.

TorrentDay operates a bonus system, where you can exchange your seeding bonus for upload credit. The tracker is currently open for public registrations, with all new members starting with 3gb upload on their account.
