There have always been What.CD invites. They give them out to power users once a month and to elite members twice a month. The interview is a way of getting in if you dont' know someone who is a member.

you have to do the interview if you want an invite but if you have someone who want to give you an invite you dont have to

I spoke with them on IRC and and said romania is banned from irc invite but one give invite is ok...
