Ukraine and the United States plan to jointly fight violation of copyrights online in Ukraine in 2016, the Ukrainian-U.S. Trade and Investment Council (TIC) said in a statement after holding the fifth meeting of TIC in Kyiv on Thursday.

"We hope to continue cooperation next year with the purpose of stopping violation of copyrights and related rights on the Internet in Ukraine. The proper protection of intellectual property would benefit both Ukrainian and U.S. inventors, creators and people of art," reads the statement posted on the website of the Economic Development and Trade Ministry.

Ukraine and the United States recognized the positive effect that the Generalized System of Preferences, or GSP, will make on trade between the two countries if its application is resumed.

GSP is a U.S. trade preference program allowing some partners to import goods to the United States without paying duties. The main problem of Ukraine in getting preferences was not enough fight with violation of copyrights.

The meeting was headed by Economic Development and Trade Minister Aivaras Abromavicius and Assistant U.S. Trade Representative Daniel Mullaney.

Abromavicius said at the meeting that Ukraine is ready to provide for favorable conditions for the arrival of foreign capital and the country is preparing for the Ukrainian-U.S. business forum that will be held on July 13 in Washington.
