The Rio de Janeiro police have arrested fifteen people accused of participating in a fraud scheme in the installation and sale of cable TV and internet services, reports O Globo. Investigations into the Node operation began about a year ago and aimed to dismantle the fraudulent scheme involving five outsourced companies. The fraudulent contracts generated losses of approximately BRL 10 million for one operators alone.

According to the police, the crime consisted of using false data for the sale and installation of packages, and the service was provided to third parties who paid the criminal organisation a rate far below the market value. Criminals also profited by receiving commissions for false services rendered to the injured company, which ended up not receiving anything for the services supplied, and also lost devices installed at addresses that were not those given in the contracts.
