When it comes to watching live sport over-the-top (OTT), legality doesn't seem to be a priority for Argentinian fans, as 46% regularly use illegal internet-based services to access content.

According to a report by Carrier y Asociados, live sport is one of the most popular types of content among online consumers in Argentina, but the offering is still small, so fans are watching it via illegal streaming platforms instead of subscribing to pay-TV packages.

“There is a huge offering of illegal options when it comes to watching live sport, especially for content such as the Champion League, the European football leagues or the Mayweather vs McGregor fight,” pointed out the report.

Regarding age groups, the report noticed there is a similar trend among different demographics, but online consumption falls among those older than 55.

“The increasing online sports consumption is interesting, as this kind of content is precisely one of the last differentiating features for pay-TV. For series and films, there is already Netflix, Qubit, Cine.ar and HBO Go,” concluded the note, pointing out the lack of legal alternatives to watching sports via streaming.
