BitTorrent Aspires To Become TRON’s Super Representative

Just days after officially announcing the takeover by TRON, BitTorrent just announced that it has become a candidate for the TRON Super Representative. BitTorrent hopes to share in TRX's great revolution, to make the internet more decentralized and democratic, free and decentralized, which is at the very heart of TRON’s values.

BitTorrent claims that as they run an extensive infrastructure to support a massive worldwide user base, it’s perhaps the most qualified Super Representative candidate. It is an SF-based internet technology and consumer software company.

It’s founder, Bram Cohen, invented a p2p communications protocol back in 2001 that still remains the largest and most popular decentralized protocol in the world. The company distributes technologies that scale efficiently; mainly consumer software applications for Windows, Mac & Android that is used by over 100M users. The apps enable users in over 138 countries to send large files over the internet through the popular BitTorrent peer-to-peer sharing protocol, maintaining a thriving economy between users and legitimate third party content providers.

Super Representatives are the network nodes that validate transactions and compete for rewards in TRON network. In short, they do what miners do in Bitcoin. However, unlike Bitcoin, not everyone can be a super representative in TRON. The method of their selection and how they validate the transactions is different. And as you can see in the statement given above, BitTorrent will perhaps be ‘the most qualified super representative’ of TRON according to TRON Foundation.

One interesting development came when Justin Sun, the TRON founder himself, decided to announce his candidacy for the position of a Super Representative. This was a move that has blown away many of the TRX holders, and Sun was elected a Super Representative in less than 24 hours. Sun is already hard at work, with his profile already producing TRON blocks.

However, the addition of BitTorrent is raising eyebrows industry-wide. Binance CEO Changpeng Zhao says that there is absolutely no decentralization in TRON. As a consequence of being a part of TRON’s network, it is obvious that people will be critical of this development.
