A DAD’S novelty song about sausage rolls is set to be the surprise Christmas No1.

YouTuber Mark Hoyle’s parody of Starship’s 1985 rock anthem We Built This City was leading with 24 hours to go.

Dad of two Mark, 31, known online as LadBaby, penned new comedy lyrics for the spoof, including chorus “we built this city on sausage rolls”.

It was only released last Friday and has racked up sales of 45,336 — 4,000 more than favourite Ava Max’s Sweet But Psycho and 8,000 more than Ariana Grade’s thank u, next.

Bookies Ladbrokes and Coral have suspended betting on it being the first novelty Christmas No1 since Bob the Builder’s Can We Fix It? in 2000.

Mark, who is also a graphic designer in Nottingham, said: “It’s unbelievable. It just shows you about the British public, they’re absolutely fantastic.”

He said: “We did struggle for a long while to make ends meet. Although we never went to a food bank we did get very, very close.”

Mark, dad to sons Phoenix, two, and baby Kobe, started blogging when Roxanne first got pregnant. His LadBaby YouTube videos, including one where he turned a skip into a swimming pool, have more than 50million views.

Mark added: “If anyone in the charts wants to share a sausage roll, then I’m paying. They’re on me.”
