The microblogging service has banned promoted tweets that were being used to push white supremacist messages online. It is known that the messages were sent and promoted via the company’s advertising tools by Andrew ‘weev’ Auernheimer, known as a former president of the trolling group named “Gay Nigger Association of America”.

Auernheimer promoted tweets like “Whites need to stand up for one another and defend ourselves from violence and discrimination”, along with many others that, for example, referred to the white nationalist credo. However, his further attempts to promote such messages led to a rejection from Twitter. The popular microblogging service argued that such promotion was against its policy and cited a ban on advertisements dealing with sensitive topics, hate content and violence. The representatives of the company claim they take this issue very seriously and cannot allow to distribute such message to a wider public.

In the meantime, it turned out that Auernheimer’s association with white supremacist movements was often written off as provocation from the notorious troll. However, after Auernheimer served his jail sentence for hacking AT&T’s iPad billing system, he apparently stepped up his involvement. 7 months ago, Auernheimer gave an interview to white supremacist website Daily Stormer. During the interview, he revealed a large chest tattoo of a swastika and was talking about his history as a longtime critic of a number of anti-white “things”, including Judaism, black culture and the media’s stream of anti-white propaganda. Twitter also pointed out that the website in question approvingly reported on Auernheimer’s promotion of white pride.
