THERESA May out-performed Jeremy Corbyn during the party conference season, a poll revealed last night.

The PM scored a positive poll rating of 25 per cent - five more than the Labour leader, the survey showed.

Forty-nine per cent of voters thought Boris Johnson puts his own interest above the country - compared to just 35 per cent for Mrs May, Opinium Research shows.

Labour climbed three points in the poll to 39 per cent to be level with the Tories on current voting intentions.

Adam Drummond, Head of Political Polling, said: “After a conference season in which both main parties were at war with themselves rather than each other, it’s hardly surprising that, on overall voting intention, it’s a draw with Conservatives and Labour on 39% of the vote each.

“Boris Johnson may be able to pack the hall at the Conservative conference but his reputation as the Heineken politician, able to reach parts of the electorate others cannot, is as out of date as that advertising campaign.”
