MOSCOW, Feb. 14 (RIA Novosti). Russia is not obliged to provide NATO information on the deployment of Iskander missile systems in the Kaliningrad region, RIA Novosti told Yury Shvytkin, deputy chairman of the State Duma Defense Committee.

The parliamentarian stressed that he sees no reason for such an exchange of data, since there is no "real" action on the part of the alliance to initiate a constructive dialogue. "NATO acts again on its double standards, in words one thing, but in fact organizing quite another," Shvytkin said.

He noted that the actions of Russia, unlike the US, do not contradict the norms of international law.

"At the same time, our right (decide - Ed.), Where to dispose (" Iskander "- Ed.), In what quantity, based on the national interests of our state, but with strict observance of the norms of international law," the deputy noted. .

On Wednesday, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg called on Russia for transparency in the issue of the deployment of the Iskander.

In early February, the lower house of parliament confirmed that Russia had deployed Iskander facilities in the Kaliningrad region. Presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that Russia does not threaten anyone, but has the sovereign right to deploy weapons anywhere on its territory.

The basing of the missile system in the Kaliningrad region took place against the backdrop of the strengthening of the NATO grouping in the Baltic States. In October, the Defense Ministry reported that the alliance deployed a whole division of the armed forces near the Russian borders. For example, in Poland there are already two American armored brigades.

NATO has repeatedly stated that they are concerned about the redeployment of the Iskanders to Kaliningrad. In Moscow, in response, it was noted that Russia was doing everything necessary to protect itself against the background of the expansion of the alliance towards its borders. At the same time, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov recalled that, unlike the United States, Moscow places weapons on its territory.
