APPLE has been showing a penis photo to iPhone users who ask the phone's on-board assistant Siri to search for "Donald Trump."

The blunder stemmed from vandalism to Donald Trump's Wikipedia page, which Siri connects to when giving users search results.

Apple's famous voice assistant Siri is no stranger to offensive blunders, having previously been branded homophobic in 2016 for responding to queries about same-sex marriage with such remarks as "Now you are using obscenities."

However, in what must be a particularly embarrassing gaffe for Apple, the AI-powered assistant has been showing iPhone users a penis picture whenever they ask about the 45th President of the USA, Donald Trump.

As reported by The Verge, questions involving the name "Donald Trump" bring up a Wikipedia entry for the President, and because his Wikipedia page had been vandalised yesterday to include the aforementioned pic, it left many users surprised.

As can be imagined, editors at Wikipedia quickly moved to change the offending image once it had been reported, replacing it with a picture that may or may not be less offensive depending on your political inclinations.

Commenting to The Verge, an unnamed Wikipedia editor revealed that the crude picture had been put up by more than one individual.

"They have now been blocked indefinitely [from editing on the site]," he or she said.

The edit history of Donald Trump's Wikipedia page reveals that it has now been moved to a higher protection level, one which is reserved for "compromised accounts."

So it would seem that anyone flirting with the idea of attempting a similar act of digital vandalism may end up disappointed.

Given that Wikipedia is an encyclopaedia anyone can edit, it's not surprising to learn that this isn't the first time an entry belonging to a public figure has been defaced.

In August, Celebrity Big Brother contestant Roxanne Pallett had her page vandalised after she accused fellow CBB housemate Ryan Thomas of punching her, with an indignant editor referring to her as "a pathetic human being."
