SHOPPERS were stunned when they saw a car wedged inside a shopping trolley bay.

The driver, said to be a man in his 90s, is believed to have pressed the accelerator pedal after his foot slipped.

Danny Harris said on Facebook: "It was a really old guy driving the car, I was there."

Around ten firefighters helped free him from his red Nissan Micra following the crash at an Asda store near Lincoln on Tuesday. But Facebook users had no sympathy for the OAP.

Kenny Wilson posted: "Driver was clearly trollied."

Witness Natalie Charters said: "I did wonder what they were doing parked in the trolley bay. They knocked down two posts as well."

Helen Boyd posted: "10 firefighters, why? " while Steve Groves joked: "They thought it was the car wash."

And Chris Hodgson quipped: "If you put a quid in it, it should come out quite easily."

A spokesman for Lincoln Fire Service said: "North Hykeham Fire and Lincoln South attended Newark Road, North Hykeham to a road traffic collision involving one vehicle. Crews used vehicle winch to make vehicle safe and assisted with one casualty."

The driver is not thought to have been seriously injured.
