A second UK hospital is investigating after a nurse was arrested for allegedly murdering eight babies and attempting to kill another six at a neonatal unit in England.

Liverpool Women’s Hospital is helping police following the arrest of nurse Lucy Letby, The UK Telegraph reports.

The 28-year-old is in custody over the deaths at the Countess of Chester Hospital more than a year ago. However, it has emerged she also spent time training at the Liverpool hospital.

In a staff profile in the Chester and District Standard in March 2013 she talked about her role caring for babies.

“I enjoy seeing them progress and supporting their families,” she said.

"A healthcare worker currently involved in a police investigation undertook placements at Liverpool Women's during their training,” a spokesperson for Liverpool Women's Trust told the newspaper.

"We are co-operating with Police as part of their investigation which includes a routine review of patients cared for on our Neonatal Unit during the time of these placements.

“There is currently no suggestion that any patients at Liverpool Women's came to any harm in relation to this investigation."

Police are now searching the nurse’s Chester home.

The police investigation began after the Cheshire Hospital reported a higher than expected mortality rate, which it could not explain, on the unit that cares for premature babies and infants needing special care.

The hospital asked police to "rule out unnatural causes of death."

The investigation initially focused on the deaths of eight babies.

Police have now said they are investigating the deaths of 17 babies and 15 "non-fatal collapses" at the unit between March 2015 and July 2016.

Detective Inspector Paul Hughes from Cheshire Police said: “This is a highly complex and very sensitive investigation and, as you can appreciate, we need to ensure we do everything we possibly can to try to establish in detail what has led to these deaths and collapses.”
