A DRUNK driver has been reported by police after crashing his car into a gas pipe — which is expected to cause some disruptions to nearby houses — in Adelaide’s north west.

Emergency services were called to Brebner Dr, West Lakes, after reports a car had crashed into a large gas pipe just before midnight on Saturday.

The crash caused significant damage to the pipe and Metropolitan Fire Service crews had to contain the gas.

It is also expected to cause disruptions for nearby businesses.

About 90 minutes later, police found a 31-year-old Devon Park man who is believed to have been the driver of the car at the time of the crash.

He returned a blood alcohol reading of 0.220 — more than four times the legal limit.

He was reported for drink driving, drive without due care, fail to stop at the scene of an accident and breach of P-plate licence conditions.

It will be further alleged police located a small amount of cannabis in the man’s car and in a bag belonging to the man.

The cannabis was seized and the man issued an expiation notice.

The man was issued an instant loss of licence for 12 months and his car was impounded for 28 days.

He will be summonsed to appear in court at a later date.
