New fake email scam targets Optus customers with malicious files
If you’re an Optus email customer, look out for a dodgy email claiming to be from your service provider.
They appear to come from the domain @optusnet.com.au but they are fake and contains links to malicious files.
There could be at least five versions of the email, according to web and email security provider MailGuard.
The email purports to have an attached document such as an invoice, which downloads harmful software.
If you do receive an email, check your security as it’s believed the emails are being sent to compromised accounts.
As a general rule, people are urged to be vigilant with accessing emails and be wary of:
emails that don’t address recipients directly
have bad grammar or punctuation
have obscure email addresses
