A friend of Captain Yared Mulugeta - the main pilot on the Ethiopian Airlines plane which crashed - says his "hair just stood up" when he heard that he had died.

In a BBC Amharic interview, Hassan Katende said he learned of the crash through social media.

I saw the news about the crash and I saw the crew’s name and since Yared is such a common name it didn’t ring in my mind that it would be him. I was saying it was terrible and all that.

Later in the evening at around eight, another friend said: 'Did you hear about Yared?' And I said: 'What do you mean Yared?' Then my hair just stood up. Then he said it is Yared who crashed. I said no…no…no…

I can’t sleep. It's shocking. It’s very hard to believe. It's really unbelievable."
