German Chancellor Angela Merkel said at a meeting with Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Moravecki that he did not see the threat of diversification of energy supplies to Europe in the implementation of the Nord Stream-2 project. "We have different views on Nord Stream, we [Germany] consider this project to be economic, we are in favor of diversification," she said. "The project does not pose a threat to diversification."

The Polish Prime Minister noted that he did not agree with this approach, and pointed to the threats that would entail the removal of Ukraine from transit. According to him, Nord Stream 2 must meet the requirements of the Third Energy Package and the EU Gas Directive.

Commissioning of the "Nord Stream - 2" is scheduled for the end of 2019. The pipeline must pass along the bottom of the Baltic Sea from the Russian coast to the coast of Germany. The throughput of each of the two strings is 27.5 billion cubic meters. m per year. The new gas pipeline will double the capacity of the first "Nord Stream", the route of which will basically repeat.

Capital costs are estimated at € 8 billion, and the total cost of the project, taking into account the attraction of project financing, is € 9.9 billion. Swiss Nord Stream 2 AG was created for the planning, construction and operation of the gas pipeline, which now belongs entirely to Gazprom.
