A MCDONALD'S worker was sprayed in the face with chemicals by a "teenage gang" sparking acid attack fears.

The 22-year-old man was attacked at the fast food restaurant in Portsmouth at around 6.45pm last night, police said.

Officers and paramedics attended and took the injured man to Queen Alexandra Hospital for treatment.

The extent of his injuries are not known at this stage.

One witness reported that a group of teenagers had carried out the attack before laughing and running off.

A spokesman for Hampshire Constabulary said: "An investigation has been launched after a member of staff at McDonalds in Commercial Road, Portsmouth was sprayed in the face with a chemical substance.

"It is thought the substance is a CS spray or similar.

"However initially it was not known what it was and fire, ambulance and police were all called to the scene."

Police are appealing for witnesses and ask anyone with information about the incident to call 101.

No arrests have yet been made.
