When the written or spoken word isn’t enough and coloured balloons or cake just don’t cut it, there is the gender reveal burnout.

One online seller has been offloading fresh sets of blue and pink gender reveal tyres for $125 each.

But in Sydney they have cost one excited rev-head more than just money.

Vision obtained by 7NEWS has captured the moment a car smokes up a small town street in NSW.

Thick plumes of blue billowed from the vehicle as it turns a quiet cul-de-sac into a burnout pit.

But while many were celebrating the impending arrival of a baby boy, police were about to appear at the driver’s door, ready to charge the man over the stunt.

In a puff of smoke, the driver’s car was confiscated and he had a date in court.

The burnout had senior police shaking their heads, with one keen onlooker standing dangerously close to the car to grab the perfect shot.

“He was invisible (with) the amount of smoke that was generated from the screeching of the tyres,” Chief Inspector Stephen Blair said.

Police will allege that prior to the Sunday afternoon party the hosts had left notes in neighbouring letterboxes, warning them there would be a gender reveal involving smoke.

The video was posted to social media. That’s where police came across it.

Four people have been charged and will face court in May.

But they’re not the only people to use a burnout to reveal the gender of an unborn baby.

In South Australia one driver found trouble after their car caught on fire.

In the US, a reveal started a major blaze.

Instead of smoke being sent into the air, an explosion sparked a fire which took more than 600 firefighters to put out.

The man responsible was ordered to pay $500 per month for the next 20 years as penalty.

A baseball-themed reveal also went wrong when the man at the plate left the ball.

It floated through to the catcher, exploding on his head.
