ONE man in his 20s has died following a serious road accident in Co Waterford.

Gardai confirmed the fatality this morning after the vehicle the man was driving smashed into a lorry on the N25 at Bawnard near Ardmore.

The victim was pronounced dead shortly after emergency services arrived and his body remains at the scene.

The lorry driver, 40s, was taken to University Hospital Waterford but his injuries are being described as non-life threatening.

A Garda Forensic Collision team are currently on site as investigations continue while the road remains closed off to the public.

A spokesperson for An Garda Siochana said: “Gardaí are investigating a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the N25 at Bawnard, Ardmore, Waterford in the early hours of this morning Saturday, December 2018 at approximately 4.30am.

“A man in his 20s, who was the sole occupant of the car, was pronounced dead at the scene after his car collided with a lorry.

“His body remains at the scene. The male driver of the lorry, late 40s, was removed to University Hospital Waterford with non-life threatening injuries.

“This stretch of road is currently closed to facilitate an examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and local diversions are in place.

“Witnesses who may have driven on the N25 between the hours of 4am and 5am from Youghal bridge to Dungarvan, and who may have dash cams in their vehicles are asked to contact Dungarvan Garda Station on 058 – 48600, The Garda Confidential Line 1800 666 111 or any Garda Station.”
