A MAJOR incident has been declared on a P&O ferry after lorries tipped over on deck in high winds today.

Emergency services have raced to the scene at Cairnryan port in Wigtownshire, near Stranraer, west Scotland.

A large ambulance presence is on-board the ferry, while the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service are also in attendance along with the Coastguard.

Photos show at least four lorries have toppled over.

No one is reported to have been injured in the incident which happened at around 7.30am.

One eyewitness told the Scottish Sun: "There are four or five ambulances, four fire engines and at least ten police cars that came racing by.

"The coastguard are also here now and the place is crawling with cops. It's really mental."

It is one of the main ferry routes between Scotland and Ireland.

Ferry operator P&O warned that services faced disruption due to extreme weather conditions.

P&O confirmed their Cairnryan to Larne service was delayed as a result.

P&O Ferries said in a statement: "We can confirm that an incident took place on the European Causeway this morning.

"In extreme weather conditions, a number of vehicles have moved position on the decks causing damage onboard.

"All passengers and crew are safely accounted for, there are no reports of injuries and the emergency services are in attendance."
