A Dutch boy only 19 years developed a system capable of separating and collecting much of the garbage that pollutes the oceans. His name is Boyan Slat and he opened a collaborative campaign to raise funding in 100 days, the $ 2 million needed to carry forward the idea - which has already achieved more than 1/4.

Slat has a team of over 100 people, who helped conduct a study of 528 pages to prove that their system is feasible. This is a combined booms V-shaped that, when anchored on the seabed, would use its 30 miles of arms to collect garbage at a depth of 3 meters.

The height is ideal for not disturbing the marine life and the shape of the gadget too, because it does not use networks and therefore is harmless to animals. According to the report, would be collected 65 cubic yards of trash per day. They should be removed every 45 days with a ship.

The deficiency of the system is that it does not collect tiny particles that are less than 0.1 mm. But how much of it is generated by the breakdown of larger materials, it is estimated that over time the amount of them also decreases.

The money funding would cover the design and implementation of the idea, but the maintenance would be paid to the recycling of material taken from the water
