A DAY after news of a stunning recovery from reportedly downing a potentially lethal cocktail of drugs as his luxury yacht was raided, Fijian police have charged former Victorian horse trainer John Nikolic in connection with a $20 million cocaine haul.

He has been charged with one count of illicit importation of drugs, one of unlawful possession of illicit drugs and one count of failure to declare arms and ammunition to a customs officer, and faced court this morning, according to fijivillage.com.

Mr Nikolic reportedly walked out of Fiji’s Lautoka Hospital on Thursday, two weeks after he was wheeled in, motionless and silent, in the wake of the raid on his luxury yacht, SV Shenanigans.

Overnight, Fiji Border police grilled Mr Nikolic in connection with the raid, which uncovered

13 bars of cocaine, 65 ecstasy tablets, about $20,000 of undeclared cash, ammunition and guns, The Herald Sun reported.

On June 21, as authorities swarmed the SV Shenanigans, Mr Nikolic and his wife, Yvette, reportedly embraced each other at Port Denarau Marina before Mr Nikolic collapsed and his wife was taken away by police.

Mr Nikolic, 45, had been dangerously ill and in a coma in hospital, but his lawyer confirmed earlier this week he was out of out of intensive care.

Yvette Nikolic faced Lautoka High Court on drug possession and importation charges on this week, where her lawyer said she would be seeking bail, and asked for some personal items taken in the raid be returned, The Fiji Times reported.

The matter was adjourned for further mention in Lautoka High Court on July 24.

Ms Nikolic remains on remand in Lautoka Women’s Corrections Centre.

John’s mother, Karen, and brother, high-profile jockey Danny Nikolic, have been in Fiji since news broke of the raid.
