A WORKER has been charged with insurance fraud after CCTV cameras caught him "staging" a dramatic fall in his office canteen.

Alexander Goldinsky was also charged with one count of theft by deception after cops watched the bizarre clip back, say prosecutors in New Jersey.

The revealing video shows Goldinsky looking around before seemingly tossing a cup of ice on the floor of his company's dining room.

The 57-year-old then stands over the discarded cubes for a few seconds before stepping on them and "tumbling" to the ground in slow motion.

"The investigation revealed that Goldinsky purposely threw the ice on the floor in the cafeteria at his workplace, placed himself on the ground, and waited until he was discovered," said Middlesex County Prosecutor's Office.

He then filed a false insurance claim for the ambulance service and treatment he received at a local hospital for his "injuries", the office said.

Goldinsky, an independent contractor from Randolph, New Jersey, was working at the Woodbridge company when he staged the incident, the department claimed.

He was arrested in January over the "fake fall", which detectives say happened between September 1 and November 1 last year.

"Fraudulent claims cost everyone and we will aggressively prosecute those who illegally manipulate the system," said prosecutor Andrew Carey in a statement.

Goldinsky was released on a summons and his initial court appearance is scheduled for February 7, in New Brunswick Superior Court.
