LOL. Women and their electronics. If I am correct, all you are doing is hooking up your LG SURROUND to your TV(Those little RED, WHITE, and YELLOW cords) are called composite video BTW. Right now, they are leaving the SURROUND going OUT and IN the tv. So when you cut on your SURROUND and put your TV on the right input you get sound through the SURROUND and picture on the TV. Unforuntely what you thought wont work. You will have to get an additional cord to run from your TV(look for a port that says sound out/audio out/line out etc). This could be in the form of composite video(RED and WHITE), optical fiber, or digital coaxial(not likely but probable). Then run that matching cord to the VIDEO 1 or AUX 1 spot on your receiver that has the matching composite or fiber port. So.. You will be going OUT from the TV and IN the SURROUND. Once you complete that, you should be able to turn on your TV.. and turn your receiver to the AUX or VIDEO you put it in and whala.

That doesn't sound right. But, if thats all you have on the back of the TV and the SURROUND. I would go get an HDMI cable use it for your surround movies to TV and to get surround from your TV while you are watching tv.. run that red and white cord you already have from the L AUX R on the dvd player to the L R on the TV(If that input is an OUT) which it sound like it is.

You will have to get another cord regardless it sounds like dear. But, HDMI is simple... they are cheap and have the best performance.

And you can be resourceful and use that composite(RED, WHITE, YELLOW) cord that came with the DVD player and just use the RED AND WHITE for the AUX to the TV.

Any time dear. If you got your HDMI.. again.. Run the HDMI from the receiver to the TV. You cant mess that up. :-). LOL. Then run the RED AND WHITE from the TV AUDIO OUT to the AUX IN RED AND WHITE on the receiver. Turn it on AUX and turn on your tv and it should work. I saw where you said that you are only getting sound on 2 speakers. That is because whatever TV station you are watching is encoded in 2ch stereo. not 5.1. There is a setting on your LG surround that will change that to where the same thing will come out of all of the speakers simultaneously. Check out your book. It will tell you what to do.
